An Freunde und Freundinnen in der ganzen Welt Vom 2.-5. Oktober 2003 kamen wir im fränkischen Schloss Schney zur 72. Jahresversammlung zusammen. Wir waren 196 Teilnehmende, davon 46 Kinder und Jugendliche. Unser Thema war: "Antworten auf Das von Gott in der Schöpfung". Wir erfuhren von den Aktivitäten des Friedensausschusses und vieler anderer Quäker im Widerstand gegen den Irak-Krieg. Wir hörten mit Freude die Bilanz von 40 Jahren Einsatz der Quäker-Hilfe e.V. in aller Welt und wurden daran erinnert, dass die Fortführung dieser Arbeit eine Sache jedes einzelnen Freundes ist. Die nächste Generation von Jungfreunden ist herangewachsen und hielt ihre erste Geschäftsversammlung ab. Dabei stellten sie sich in Offenheit und Ehrlichkeit der Drogen- und Alkoholproblematik und erarbeiteten zusammen mit den Junioren einen Vorschlag, wie Jugendliche und Erwachsene besser mit Suchtmitteln umgehen können. In der Geschäftsversammlung beschäftigten wir uns auch in diesem Jahr wieder mit der Frage der Mitgliedschaft des Friedensausschusses in anderen Organisationen. Uns wurde im Laufe der Jahresversammlung eine gemeinsame Erfahrung gegeben, dank der wir erste Schritte zur Bearbeitung dieses konfliktreichen Themas unternehmen konnten. Wir suchen nun nach Wegen, diesen Konflikt für uns zu einer fruchtbaren Erfahrung werden zu lassen. Die Richard-Cary-Vorlesung von Robert Antoch hatte den Titel: "Halte lieb deinen Genossen, dir gleich. ICH bin's". Beeindruckt hat uns sehr Roberts Darstellung seiner Kindheit in Zeiten von Krieg und Vertreibung. Aus dieser Erfahrung entwickelte er seine Lebensleitlinie: Die Suche nach dem Ausweg aus der Spirale von Angst und Gewalt. In seiner Auslegung des biblischen Liebesgebots (3.Mos.19,18) wies er uns auf die Gegenwart Gottes ("ICH bin's") in uns Menschen hin. Er fordert uns auf: "Gehe achtsam, freundlich, verständigungsbereit und auch entschieden um mit dir und mit allen deinen Mitmenschen. Als Mitgeschöpfe sind sie wie du, und du bist wie sie: zum verantwortlichen Mittun an der Schöpfung fähig und berufen. Der Glaube an die gemeinsame Mitte ist die Kraft, die uns dabei trägt."

To Friends throughout the world From 2nd to 5th October 2003 we met for our 72nd Yearly Meeting at Schloss Schney in Franconia. There were 195 participants, among them 46 children and young friends. Our theme was "Answering that of God in Creation". We were informed about the activities of the Committee for Peace and Social Concerns and of many other Quakers in demonstrating against the Irak War. We were pleased to hear the fruit of 40 years of committed work by the "Quäker Hilfe" throughout the world. In this way we were also reminded that the continuation of this work is a concern of every individual Friend. Our next generation of Young Friends has grown and matured. They held their first Meeting for Worship with Attention to Business. They took this opportunity to speak openly and honestly about the problems associated with drugs and alcohol. Together with Young Friends, they worked out suggestions for how young people and adults can deal better with addictive substances. This year our Meeting for Worship with attention to business focussed again on the issue of membership in other organizations—something that has been the source of much conflict. Over the course of the year and during Yearly Meeting, the way we have dealt with this conflict has allowed it to become a fruitful experience. The Richard Cary Lecture, entitled "Halte lieb deinen Genossen, dir gleich. ICH bin´s" (... thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.), was held by Robert Antoch. We were deeply touched by Robert's story of his childhood in times of war and and as a refugee. These experiences led him to develop the central theme in his life: the search for a way out of the spiral of fear and violence. In his interpretation of the Biblical commandment to love (Lev.19:18), he directed our attention to the presence of God (Ich bin´s. - I am the Lord) in us human beeings. He challenged us: "Deal with yourself and all of your fellow human beings respectfully, be friendly and understanding. They are part of the creation, just like you, and you are like them: able and called to cooperate responsibly in the universe. Aux amies et aux amis dans le monde entier Nous nous sommes réunis pour notre 72ième assemblée annuelle du 2 au 5 octobre 2003 au Château de Schney près de Lichtenfels dans la Franconie du nord. Nous étions 195 participants, dont 46 jeunes et enfants. Le thème choisi était: "répondre au divin dans la création" Notre commission pour la paix fit rapport de ses activités et de celles de beaucoup d’autres amis contre la guerre de l’Irak. Nous nous sommes réjouis d’entendre le bilan de 40 ans d’activité de notre association d’entraide "Quäker-Hilfe e.V." en nous rappelant en même temps que le maintien de ces activités engage chacun de nous. La génération montante des jeunes à tenu sa première réunion d’affaires. Leur concern principal traité de manière ouverte et sincère fut le problème des drogues en général et de l’alcool en particulier. Avec les juniors ils rédigèrent und proposition pour la manière de gérer la consommation de produits enivrants des adultes et des jeunes. La question centrale de notre réunion d’affaire fut une fois de plus celle de l’appartenance de notre commission pour la paix dans d’autres associations constituées. Lors du débat de ce point de l’ordre du jour nous eûmes la chance de faire une experience de communion exeptionnelle qui nous permit de faire les premiers pas vers une résolution d’un problème qui nous avais divisé ces dernières années. Nous entrons maintenant dans la phase fructueuse de ce conflit. La conférence en mémoire de Richard-Cary de notre ami Robert Antoch était intitulée: "Aimes ton compagnon, semblable à toi, JE suis lui" (Traduction libre du traducteur de cette épitre, à défaut de la traduction originale du texte de Martin Buber, dont est extrait la citation faisant office de titre de la conférence) La description que fit Robert de son enfance marquée par la guerre et les déportations nous touchât profondément. A partir de son expérience il developpa la ligne de conduite de sa vie: la recherche d’une voie de sortie du cercle vicieux de la peur et de la violence. Dans sont interprétation du commendement d’amour de la Bible (Moise 3.19/18) il nous rendis attentifs à la présence divine en nous ("JE suis lui") Cette attitude nous engage, nous exhorte: "sois attentif, aimable, prêt à comprendre et en même temps exigeant envers toi-même et envers ton prochain. Celui-ci est semblable à toi et tu es semblable à lui, donc appelé et apte à collaborer à la création. La foi en le noyau commun est la force qui nous y incite et nous soutien."
